The Variety Scouts
In collaboration with the Scouts Movement, Variety Israel has developed a youth movement based on a unique concept, the first of its kind in the world, wherein children with special needs participate in common activities without having to leave their homes. This is made possible by using the internet to establish a social framework similar to that of the Scouts Youth Movement.
With this model, many young people will be able to enjoy an internet-based social network with true content. This network can serve as a value and an educational framework for children who are limited in their ability to leave home.
Once a week, up to seven children "congregate" through their individual PCs at home to engage in one-hour internet activity session moderated by a regular instructor. In addition, the children can contact one other, play and speak during of the week in an online forum. To be accepted to Variety Scouts, participants must meet a number of criteria: the ability to read, write and speak by means of a computer, and have a microphone and camera to contact the rest of the group members.
This project was made possible with the help of Leumi Bank and additional donors.
